Books for the Beast

On October 19, 2013 I attended Books for the Beast, http://www.prattlibrary.org/home/beastie.aspx.  The facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/pages/Books-for-the-Beast/88319893820 or like the page Books for the Beast.  This was the 4th time I had attended the conference.  I read 10 books from 2 categories (to be truthful I read 20 books as there was a mix-up on the categories I was registered for but enjoyed doing so).  We had book discussions on the 2 categories we read. I always like hearing the different takes on the books read, details I may have missed in my own reading, and read-alike recommendations.  The two presenters this year were very interesting:  Sharon Flake, author of Pinned, and Raina Telgemeier, author of Smile.  Both were very entertaining.  Books for the Beast is one of my favorite conferences to attend.  The exposure to books I may not normally read helps tremendously with Reader's Advisory.  This is the most important part of the event for me.

merlin and newsfeeds

Okay. I have signed up for Merlin. I may check the site periodically to see what's new but it is not a place I will visit often. I did, however, find a link I liked a lot. I added it to my favorites and feeds. It is Mashable-the social networking blog. If you have not checked it out yet, you really should.

I played around with the search tools for a while. I must say emphatically that I did not like Syndic8 at all. I like the local interest aspect of Topix but my favorite is Technorati. There is so much to find on this site and it is easy to navigate. I would reference this site often.
And now...on to the next thing!

Week 4 and bloglines?

Bloglines. Feeds. It's making me crazy. Just joking.

I can see why one would want a place to group all of their feeds together. I set mine up under bloglines as required but already had some set up on my personal pc under a different system. I did make my feeds public. http://www.bloglines.com/public/aga42

Just for fun, I set a blogsite here but probably will not blog here often.http://www.bloglines.com/blog/aga42

Ciao!

Flickr pic and Fun with Mashups

After looking at mashups and fun sites, I realized just how much fun I am going to have with my new digital camera. I cannot wait. I looked at FD Toys' and there is so much one can do. What am I going to play with first? The Warholizer! Ashley and I were talking about doing this to a photo some time ago and now we have the tool to do it. Hey, now we need to take the photo. OMG I am so unphotogenic!

Week 3 and Technology

Iphone Wallpapers

On the whole, I believe technology is our friend. It is an aid in a busy world. It is fun to play with. However, it is not infalliable. We should be careful of becoming too dependent on technology. We must continue to rely on ourselves and our own brain power to find answers and do things.

So saying, this is going to be my new toy soon. I will have an iPhone! I am debating whether I should wait for the next generation. I am sure there will be bugs to work out and the next will have improved upon the original. I am impatient!

In appreciation

This post is to thank the first person who commented on one of my blogs. Since you share my admiration for Johnny Depp, this is for you.

Right Where I Need To Be

For your enjoyment - okay so it is really for my enjoyment but I hope you like it too.
